# €55,000 Salary in the Netherlands: Net Pay in 2026

> A €55,000 Dutch salary package is about €3,300 net in a normal month under clear 2026 assumptions. See the full calculation and try the calculator.

**Quick answer:** if €55,000 is your full annual package **including 8% holiday allowance**, estimated pay is about **€3,300 net in a normal month**. Including the separate holiday payment, estimated annual net pay is about **€41,617**, or **€3,468 per month on average**.

## Assumptions behind the answer

The estimate assumes:

- you are below Dutch state-pension age;
- you work for the full 2026 tax year;
- €55,000 includes 8% holiday allowance;
- payroll tax credit is applied;
- the 30% ruling is not applied;
- there is no employer pension deduction, company car, bonus, or second income; and
- holiday allowance is accrued for 12 months and paid separately.

Change any of these facts and the result can change.

## €55,000 calculation

First separate the annual package into base salary and holiday allowance:

```text
Annual base salary = €55,000 ÷ 1.08 ≈ €50,926
Monthly base salary = €50,926 ÷ 12 ≈ €4,244
Gross holiday allowance = €50,926 × 8% ≈ €4,074
```

The 2026 calculator then estimates:

| Item                                      | Estimate |
| ----------------------------------------- | -------: |
| Gross package                             |  €55,000 |
| Gross monthly base                        |   €4,244 |
| Net in a normal month                     |   €3,300 |
| Gross annual holiday allowance            |   €4,074 |
| Net holiday payment                       |   €2,018 |
| Total annual net                          |  €41,617 |
| Average monthly net including holiday pay | €3,468 |

The normal monthly figure excludes the annual holiday payment. Your May or June payment is usually higher when the employer pays the accrued holiday allowance.

## Why the calculation is not €55,000 minus 35.75%

Dutch income tax is progressive, and tax credits reduce the final liability. For someone below AOW age, the 2026 Box 1 rates are:

| Taxable Box 1 income | 2026 rate |
| -------------------- | --------: |
| Up to €38,883        |    35.75% |
| €38,883 to €78,426   |    37.56% |
| Above €78,426        |    49.50% |

Only the part of taxable income inside each bracket receives that bracket's rate. The general tax credit and employment tax credit are then considered. This is why multiplying all €55,000 by one percentage gives the wrong answer.

## Does €55,000 qualify for the 30% ruling?

Do not assume that the full 30% can be paid tax-free at this salary.

Under the ordinary 2026 threshold, taxable annual salary must remain above **€48,013** after the tax-free reimbursement. A full 30% reimbursement on €55,000 would leave only €38,500 taxable, so the ordinary full benefit would not fit.

An employee under 30 with a qualifying master's degree has a lower €36,497 threshold, but the other eligibility conditions and employer application still apply. Read the [30% ruling guide](/30-ruling-netherlands) before enabling it in the calculator.

## Why your payslip may be different

The estimate does not include:

- pension contributions;
- a lease-car addition;
- health or disability deductions;
- overtime or bonuses;
- unpaid leave;
- employer-specific reimbursements; or
- the effect of another job or benefit.

Check whether your offer says **€55,000 including holiday allowance**. If holiday allowance comes on top, enter €55,000 and switch “includes holiday allowance” off in the calculator.
