# One vs Two Incomes Netherlands: Combined Net and Rent Leftover

> Compare one Dutch salary versus two: estimate combined net pay and what remains after shared rent, with a clear tax-credit caveat.

**Quick answer:** add two estimated net salaries, then subtract shared housing. A second income often changes the leftover more than moving one bracket in the tax table. Each person can normally use payroll tax credit on one simultaneous job or benefit in their own name.

## Can one salary support a household?

It depends on rent, dependents, and buffer needs — not on a single “yes/no” salary number. Use Income A alone in the tool (set Income B to €0 or a tiny amount) and compare leftover with the dual-income result. For band context on the primary offer, see [Dutch salaries after tax](/dutch-salaries-after-tax).

## Assumptions (simplified)

- Each package includes 8% holiday allowance.
- No 30% ruling in this tool (use the [30% ruling guide](/30-ruling-netherlands) per person if needed).
- Payroll tax credit on no more than one simultaneous income **per person**.
- Shared rent only — no full household budget, childcare, or benefits model.
- Fiscal-partner rules and year-end assessment effects are **not** calculated here.

## Partner arrives later

A common move pattern is one offer first, partner income later. Run Income A with the city rent now, then add Income B when the second package is known. The difference is your planning buffer, not advice to move or wait.
