Dutch Job Offer Salary Explained: Holiday Pay, Net, Package
Decode a Dutch job offer: whether 8% holiday allowance is included, what the true annual package is, and the estimated net monthly pay.
Quick answer: always check whether the offer includes the usual 8% holiday allowance (vakantiegeld). The same “€80,000” headline can mean two different true packages — and two different net salaries.
Monthly base gross
€6,173
True package incl. 8%
€80,000
Estimated net / month
€4,255
The offer amount is treated as base salary plus holiday allowance. May net with holiday pay is about €7,191.

What to look for in the contract
Ask for these three numbers in writing:
- Base annual salary (12 months).
- Whether holiday allowance is included in that figure or paid on top.
- Any 13th month, bonus target, or pension contribution that changes take-home pay.
If holiday pay is on top:
True package ≈ base × 1.08If holiday pay is already included:
Monthly base ≈ package ÷ 1.08 ÷ 12Why this confuses candidates
Recruiters often quote one round number. Payroll then splits base salary and holiday accrual. Candidates compare offers that are not on the same definition and feel the net “doesn’t match.”
Use the decoder above, then confirm with gross to net and the holiday allowance guide.
After you know the package
- Place it on the salary bands hub.
- Check rent leftover by city.
- If the offer mentions the 30% ruling, compare with the 30% ruling guide.
